Reporting Fraud

If you suspect fraud in connection with your Citizens First accounts, contact Citizens First right away.

Lost or stolen ATM / Debit Card

If your ATM or Debit card is lost or stolen, please follow these steps:

  • Report your card lost or stolen immediately by calling Citizens First at (800) 462-2786. No matter where you are, report lost or stolen cards to minimize loss and liability.

  • Notify all of the participating merchants with whom you have set up automatic bill payments. Once Citizens First issues you a new card, you will need to reestablish automatic bill payments with your new card at the participating merchants.

Email and online fraud

If you suspect you have received a fraudulent Email, forward it to us immediately at emailhoax@cfsbank.com. Please do not use this email address to send general questions about the bank or your accounts. If you have general questions, please contact us.

If you are uncomfortable forwarding the Email, you may also call Citizens First and report it at (800) 462-2786. Please be sure to write down the title of the Email, the sender and names of any attachments before deleting the email.

If you are in doubt as to whether or not an Email is legitimate, do not respond to it. If the questionable Email offers a link asking you to provide personal information on a Web page, do not click on the link, even if it looks genuine. In any cases of uncertainty, please contact Citizens First directly at (800) 462-2786.

If you suspect you have provided personal information online in response to a fraudulent Email, immediately notify Citizens First at (800) 462-2786. You should also follow these steps:

  • Make sure to change all of your passwords immediately.

  • If you opened an attachment containing a virus or other malicious program, you should clean your computer system using anti-virus software and change your Internet and system passwords.

  • Monitor your account activity frequently and report any suspicious activity to Citizens First. If you do not recognize a transaction or suspect fraudulent activity, notify Citizens First immediately at (800) 462-2786.

You should also contact one of the three major credit bureaus and discuss whether you need to place a fraud alert on your file, which will help prevent thieves from opening a new account in your name.

Identity theft

If you suspect you are a victim of identity theft, you should take at least the following steps:

  • File a police report with your local police department.

Contact the fraud units of the three major credit bureaus:

  • Call the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Identify Theft Hotline at (877) ID-THEFT (438-4338) or visit  www.consumer.gov/idtheft
  • Notify Citizens First by calling us or visiting your local branch.
  • Depending on the type of fraud that has been committed, you may need to take some additional steps. For example, if your Social Security Number was used under false pretenses, call the Social Security Administration's Fraud Hotline at (800) 269-0271 or visit www.ssa.gov/oig.

Check Fraud

Please contact us immediately at (800) 462-2786 if:

  • Your checks are lost or stolen.

  • You do not receive your Citizens First statement.

  • You see check transactions on your statement or Online Banking account history that you did not write.
